Cheap Calls to New Zealand: Two Things to Consider was written by Caroline Telford from dialtosave.co.uk
Most everyone by now recognises that the availability of cheap international calls offers a lot of great price-savers for anyone, regardless of their reason for wanting to make an overseas call. However, just as many are quickly drawn in by a 'good deal', without realising that just like anything else there are some careful considerations that should be taken into account before making a move. Jumping the gun and making a hasty choice can lead to a lot of time being spent rectifying a bad decision.
What sort of calls will you be making?
Are the bulk of the cheap calls to New Zealand that you intend to make going to be to and from landlines or mobile phones? Are you open to the possibility of talking via the computer? These are the questions that should be asked first and foremost.
Reasoning for this is simple, if you and the people you call most have no qualms with talking over the computer using a headset, VoIP calls may be the best option forward, since they're, for all intents and purposes, free. Also the rates that any given provider may offer differ for mobiles and landlines, and as such should be selected accordingly.
Some providers even charge differently at various hours of the day, i.e. peak times and non-peak times. So if the bulk of your calls are generally made at night, which is non-peak, then you may consider looking for the provider that offers the best rates for non-peak calls. In the rare cases where a person has no specific calling patterns, and thus calls at various hours of the day, to both mobiles and landlines, then it may be best to consider a plan that has generally good rates all round. It should be noted that such plans almost never offer the best prices however.
Do your phone bills regularly spiral out of control?
Another common consideration when making cheap calls to New Zealand is whether or not you regularly have problems involving large monthly phone bills. It is only natural that sometimes overspending does occur, however the best way to avoid it would be to choose a prepaid option over a post-paid one, and as such be able to keep regular track of your own expenditure.
Most prepaid providers have about the same rates as postpaid ones, so price does not really figure into any argument. On top of that, some prepaid providers allow for top-up facilities either online or via the phone itself, thus making it almost as convenient.
In the long run, the small hassle of having to top-up prepaid credit every so often could end up saving a lot of money.
Once both these issues have been considered, a wiser and more informed choice on the type of cheap international calls provider that you desire can be made. Hopefully, it will help you choose one that both provides good quality calls, while at the same time remains affordable.
